Now, it is a known fact that I am NOT the world’s most amazing photographer. But take a look at my cruddy photo of what might be the world’s most amazing chairs:
These stunning, 80% recycled aluminum chairs and table are manufactured in Hanover, Pennsylvania, by Emeco. They’ve been making these chairs since 1944, originally for the Navy and, are you ready for this? Torpedo proof. Srsly.
Combining the highest quality materials with the most highly skilled craftsmen and designers, each piece is hand-made in a 77-step process, during which it passes through between 50 and 116 human hands. The tables and chairs are anodized, leaving them almost as hard as diamonds, and each is polished three times, to achieve a luxurious, sensual finish.
Luana, our gifted store buyer, says she saw a great video, in which these items are being hurled against concrete walls and down onto bull’s-eye targets on the pavement from balconies, without sustaining any injury.
As you can see in the cruddy photo, we have two different styles of chair available. We are thrilled to offer the 36″ Cafe Table, traditional Navy Chair, and the exciting NEW Stacking Chair.
All of these pieces are covered by a Lifetime Warranty, and each has an estimated lifespan of 150 years. Forty percent of the aluminum used in each piece is recycled from post-consumer waste, largely soft drink cans, and another forty percent is recycled post-industrial waste, which is manufacturing scrap. Chairs made from virgin aluminum have an energy density that is 17 times higher than that of Emeco chairs, and aluminum does not off-gas.
